Chris Martin has revealed he was once accused of stealing from a supermarket and threatened with the sack.
The Coldplay frontman was working as a cashier at the popular shop chain Kwik Save back in the 90s when it turned out his till was £30 lighter after his shift.
He denied the accusation on BBC Radio 2 on Friday, saying: ‘I didn’t steal it – I’d like to go on record.’
Accusation: Chris Martin has revealed he was once accused of stealing from a supermarket he worked in and threatened with the sack
Reliving the injustice, Chris explained: ‘I used to work at a supermarket called Kwik Save in the late 1990’s…
‘I don’t drink or smoke or do the lottery so they put me on the alcohol and cigarette counter where they sell scratch cards and it somewhat put me off,
‘Only my manager, Mr White, would remember me from then, he accused me of stealing on my first day.
‘He said the till was £30 down and not to let it happen again – and I didn’t gosh darn it. I didn’t steal it – I’d like to go on record.’

The singer who has two children with actress Gwyneth Paltrow and currently dates Dakota Johnson also told of his early love woes.
Chris said his first love dumped him over a packet of chocolate mini eggs in his youth.
He explained: ‘I got dumped once and it’s when my addiction to chocolate began.
‘This is 1994 and I was quite religious and I didn’t necessarily know what to do in terms of relationships.
Heartbreak: The singer, who has two children with actress Gwyneth Paltrow and currently dates Dakota Johnson, also told of how his first love dumped him over a packet of mini eggs
‘A young woman had very kindly agreed to go out with me but after not such a long time she took me to the cafe and I had just got some mini eggs from the supermarket – who doesn’t love mini eggs?
‘She sat me down and said ‘I don’t think this is working so let’s just be friends. And I said “well at least I’ve got chocolate”.
Bandmate Jonny Buckland added: “I think I would be a bit sad if that’s how my marriage ended.”
Unrequited love: Chris said the heartbreak was when his addiction to chocolate began because, although his relationship was over, he still had a tasty snack
The singer also mentioned that the pandemic and lockdown had forced him to look at his relationship with fame.
‘Last year was a quite an eye opener,’ he said. ‘I was like, “Who am I without Wembley Stadium, saying you’re awesome?”
‘I’m trying in my life right now to not attach too much to being a pop star. I’m trying not to get my self worth from external validation.’
Mailonline has contacted a spokesman for Kwik Save for comment.
However, the band will be playing live again soon. They’re due to open the Brit Awards this week, playing on a barge in the middle of the Thames.
Then, on 22 May, they’ll take to the stage at Glastonbury, as part of a livestream that’s taking the place of this year’s festival.
Coldplay have previously headlined the event three times – and Martin said he had a tradition of visiting the site, which is a working farm, before they played to envisage what their set will look like.
‘I like to go down in the winter and climb up the Pyramid and sit there and think about what we’re going to do,’ he said.
‘I just look at the cows and the grass and think, “Okay, I’ll imagine you’re people”.
‘But this year we have to just treat them as cows and grass and play to them. And I’m into that.
‘You know, every member of the audience is special, whether they’re human or bovine. We’re going to give a great show – and nobody’s going to be there!’
