” I cry a lot, however George with my mommy he would always just be up on her,” Philonise said. Philonise stated George was heartbroken by their moms death in 2018.

Jurors have consistently heard George Floyds last words and seen images of him dying on a Minneapolis street. On Monday, they got a different photo of him: Family images taken throughout his life, told by the memories of his younger bro, Philonise.
Philonise Floyd, 39, took the witness stand Monday afternoon in the murder trial of former Minneapolis law enforcement officer Derek Chauvin, informing jurors stories about growing up with his “big brother” as district attorneys showed the old images.
The more youthful bro choked up seeing the image of George — nicknamed “Perry” after his daddy– and his mom. “I miss out on both of them,” he stated.
Philonise Floyd said he was wed on May 24. “Its like a bittersweet month because Im expected to be delighted when that month comes,” he stated, pausing to take off his glasses and wipe his eyes with a tissue.

He affirmed as a “trigger of life” witness to provide jurors a much better sense of who George was. A 1985 Minnesota Supreme Court judgment permits district attorneys to humanize departed subjects. “The victim was not simply sinews and bones covered with flesh, however was imbued with the spark of life,” the court said.
He was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and the family moved to Houston when they were young. The bros have 2 older siblings.
” He would constantly make sure we had our clothes for school. He made certain all of us were going to be to school on time,” he said. George could not cook– he “could not boil water”– however he made “the best banana mayonnaise sandwiches,” Philonise said.
Philonise Floyd, who is married with two kids residing in Houston, stated he grew up playing Nintendo games with George. He recalled George marking his height on the walls, stating he “always desired to be taller.” He stated George was cherished in the neighborhood.
” People would participate in church simply due to the fact that he existed,” Philonise Floyd stated. “He felt in ones bones how to make individuals feel better.”
The more youthful brother talked about George Floyds love of sports. He stated George excelled in basketball and football in high school and got a scholarship to go to South Florida Community College before moving to Texas A&M University, where he played football.
Philonise said George taught him how to play basketball. “He d state male, lets go hooping,” Philonise said.
George taught him how to play football, too, Philonise said. ” I constantly thought that my bro couldnt toss, but he never ever intended to throw the ball to me. He would constantly throw it at an angle where I had to chase it or leap for it or dive for it.”
Philonise stated George had a “one of a kind” relationship with their mom, nicknamed “Miss Cissy.”
” I weep a lot, but George with my mommy he would constantly just be up on her,” Philonise said. “It was so special how they were with each other. He would just lay up on her in the fetus position like he was still in the womb.”
Philonise said George was heartbroken by their mothers death in 2018. At the funeral service, George was “simply kissing her. He didnt want to leave the casket,” Philonise stated.
The funeral service was the last time he saw George before he passed away, Philonise stated. The 2 would regularly talk on the phone in the early mornings when Philonise was working as a truck motorist.
” He would just listen,” Philonise said.
